Bio

Rodrigo Saavedra is a music video, commercials, and short film director from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Emphasizing character study and art direction, Saavedra’s filmmaking style is narrative-driven with a sense of humor and delight.

He has won awards from the D&AD, the One Show, Cannes Lions, 1.4 Awards, AICP, Berlin Commercial, UKMVA and MVF, and has worked with brands including Cadillac, Jeep, Coca-Cola, Heineken, Absolut, Uber, Google, Corona, Honda, VW, Facebook, Dropbox, and the Francis Ford Coppola Winery. His unique perspective also shines through his music video works, which includes collaborations with Selena Gomez, DJ Snake, Céu, and Niki & The Dove.

With a background in graphic design, he began directing in 2013 after a career as an advertising creative, which led him on a global adventure working for several top agencies including WCRS London, Mother London, WK Amsterdam, and Santos in Buenos Aires.

His work often features well-choreographed vignettes and dynamic camera movements. At heart, Rodrigo is a frustrated painter, and therefore sometimes he still draws his own storyboards. Sometimes, upon special request, he writes his own scripts.

More often than not, he obsesses about details most people don’t care about. In 2018, he became a member of the Directors Guild of America.
